It seems that I have a thing for faces (360, Memoirs of a Geisha, Detachment) but this poster is different than the aforementioned ones. Somehow Sean Penn’s face — yes, this shaggy, red-lipstick’d persona is in fact Sean Penn — captures a haggardness of ultimate hilarity. Not only is Penn different, and shockingly so, but his face, innocent and comic, surrounded by the magnitude of blackness makes the poster even more strange.

And strangely enough, I like the poster, the film, and Penn’s epic performance.
